Should I stay or should I go?
Determining when, where, why, and how to take the next step as a solopreneur. Let's talk before, during, and after the leap.
It has been rather exciting over the last few weeks in the Calkins house. I attempted to convince myself to reframe my thoughts of anxiety and fear to excitement. This is how we are 'supposed' to think, right? Well, as my confidants will tell you, I was never one for people telling me how to feel or act. I am truly incapable of masking my feelings on a situation or topic. This is likely why I have always wanted (and needed) to be my own boss. This is also another reason why people have told me I could have a career in law if I wanted to.
Let me break it down real simple. Digisist has been a dream for so long. Digisist is something that helps people while also showing them an easier (and more profitable) way to run their business. This dream was born in 2014 and stood in the same place for far too long. I have a handful of dedicated and loyal clients that I manage and value with all my heart. I know that feeling is mutual because I know each of them on a very deep level. That part will never change about my company. In retrospect, it seems as if I have developed a secret society of awesomeness for those who were privileged enough to be invited in.
I am not an overly religious person but I know that the big guy (or person) upstairs had something to do with the push I just received. As of November 29, 2021, my "day job" decided that they wanted to give me the boot after almost 3-years of dedication and, to top it off, requiring me move to another state 1,500+ miles away from my family and friends. Most people would complain. This is not the time to complain. This is the time to show myself what I am truly capable of.
I know the job market is full of all sorts of amazing opportunities. I also know that the potential employees are weighing out their options because they have so many. I really needed you to understand the prelude in order to share what's next. Before tomorrow, you have to understand what happened today.
This is the story of a person who just reconfirmed their worth. Please tell me if this sounds even a little bit like you:
- Invests anything and everything into ensuring that someone else's happiness is achieved. No matter how much you sacrifice of yourself.
- Believes in the tall tales of growth and opportunity with people who have only showed you that that they shut the door on anything and anyone that goes against their grain.
- Constantly needs to communicate with you and, God forbid you can't talk when they'd like to, you are deemed to be up to no-good.
- Promised grandiose rewards (changing the will, etc.) in exchange for your loyalty to the business and them.
Now, if one or all of those relate to a past or present experience of yours, I need you to take a breath. It is a lot to digest, especially when you have your ah-ha moment.
As Oprah once said, "An ah-ha moment is something that you've known all along. That's why you say AHHH.... HAHHH!" Essentially, you knew what you needed to know (and do) the whole time. You are the ultimate controller of your destiny.
Now, what is your dream? What is the gift that you want to bring to the world in your finite time here on earth? Whatever it is, make it count. If you are here, find out if the entrepreneurial route is the route for you.
If you'd like to get in touch with us to ask questions or make your dreams a reality, do it. There's no day like today. We are here to support you.
